Case Studies
Case study 1
Mr James Smith (different name used) has been a client of Best Health for 5 years. Originally with BUPA, we offered him a much more affordable cover with Axa PPP but with equal benefits.
He had never had to use his health insurance until one day in March 2008. James called Debbie Kleiner-Gaines (Managing Director) as his first port of call. James felt that he knew Debbie very well having dealt with her for over 5 years and he knew he could rely on her to solve his problem.
James had been admitted to an NHS hospital with stomach pains as an Accident and Emergency patient. He had been in a ward for 3 days and still no tests had been performed and he didnÕt know what was wrong. Meanwhile, his wife was managing the house and children on her own whilst worrying about her husband. He remembered that he had private health insurance and decided to try and transfer to a private ward but as he was in hospital had no details of who he was insured with or what was covered. Luckily, he knew that he had placed his insurance through Debbie at Best Health and gave her a ring. Within 2 hours, she had called his insurer, pre-authorised his claim and told Steven that he could safely transfer to the local private hospital. She even dealt with the GP who needed to sign the claim form for Axa PPP. Later that night, she contacted his wife who was very upset and worried. She acted as a sounding board for his wife who was finding it all difficult and reassured her that he was in safe hands. James had the tests done, was diagnosed with a condition which was treated quickly and he is now back to full strength.
Case study 2.
Mrs Heather Brown (different name used) is a new client to Best Health and has medical cover in place. She was refered to a specialist with a throat condition which started off as a croaky voice. She contacted Best Health to advise that she had been refered to a specialist and asked how she went about finding the right one for her condition. Best Health advised that her GP should refer her to a private specialist consultant within an Ear Nose and Throat department at the local BUPA hospital. She booked an appointment for the next morning and was refered for an MRI scan the next day. She was diagnosed as having polyps on her vocal chords which were removed by laser. After a 2 week recovery period where she had to rest her voice, she made a full recovery. If she had used the NHS route, her GP informed her that she would have waited 13 weeks to see the same specialist on the NHS. She would have waited a further 4 weeks for the MRI Scan and that was the case if she had been fast tracked. We can guess that the inpatient procedure would have been a further wait of up to 3 months. So the whole treatment would have taken at least 6 months longer on the NHS. Heather runs a business as a trainer where she needs to use her voice a lot. She would not have been able to wait and would have therefore paid to go privately. She said that she just wouldnÕt have had access to the £1300 for and MRI scan, let alone the specialist fees for the outpatient consultations of £500 and the operation costs of £1500. She was relieved that she had taken out private health insurance.
